Bear Cub Scout (3rd Grade)

Bear is the Cub Scout program for girls and boys in 3rd grade. Bear Cub Scouts go further with their outdoor skills, learn about our country and service, and explore other topics like science, crafts, and woodworking.

Cub Scouting is all about adventure!  To earn their rank badge, Bear Cub Scouts complete seven “adventures,” which are collections of themed, multidisciplinary activities.  They also complete safety exercises. Bear Cub Scouts are in the third grade. Cub Scout Bear requirements include topics such as camping, pocketknife safety, woodworking, and wildlife.

  • Bear Cub Scouts make simple wooden projects while doing the Baloo the Builder adventure. They also learn about choosing the appropriate tool and tool safety.
  • For the Bear Claws adventure, Bears learn how to use their pocketknives safely and carve a couple of items.
  • For the Bear Necessities adventure, Bears learn some outdoor skills, go camping, do some cooking, and learn a little about the weather.
  • For the Paws for Action adventure, Bears learn about history, law enforcement, and conservation.
  • Bear Cub Scouts observe wildlife and plants when they work on the Fur, Feathers, and Ferns adventure. They find out about endangered species and gardening.
  • For the Fellowship and Duty to God adventure, Bears either earn the religious emblem for their faith or explore the practice and history of their beliefs.
